In July of 1992 Pat and I planned 2 weeks at Clear Creek Camp Park. The 1st week we would have Kyle and Tyler with us the 1st week and thier parents would come spend the weekend of the 4th with us and then pat and I would have the 2nd week to ourselves. At this time Mom and Dad owned the lakehouse and it was rented to a man. We had a great time at the camp park, but it justwas not the same as THE LAKEHOUSE. For the 4th we actually had our gathering at Rhonda's place on Little Dismal where she built the house withthe red roof and doors like the Little House on the Praire. She had a deck built on a rock that was neat. Still that was not the same as THE LAKEHOUSE. In our 2nd week we asked the man renting the house if we could come spend a day on the lake, just on the pier and we would be no bother. I remember Susan and I out on floats discussing old times at THE LAKEHOUSE and how we wish Mom and Dad did not have to rent it out, or some of us could buy it or all of us together buy it, just any idea we could come up with. It would be a lot of up keep and expense to not live there full time and no one could live there full time. Pat and I had discussed buying a place on the lake the year before and had actually looked at 5 acres next to Rhonda's for $30, 000.00. We could park a camper there but only temporary while building and had a set time to have home complete. We were looking for a place to camp and then build at a point of retirement so we would not have the worry, work and expense of 2 homes for many years. In thinking of THE LAKEHOUSE I could see where we would not be there much and just work when we were there mowing grass and other upkeep and the rest of the world would enjoy, but we would just work, lol. By the time our vacation was over we had the DREAM. We kinda half way kidding told Mom and Dad if they decide to sale THE LAKEHOUSE to let us know. They acted as if they might sale. Well for 5 hours driving back to Mississippi all we could talk about was buying THE LAKEHOUSE. The HOW's? WHY'S? WHAT IF'S? When we got to Mississippi we got a call from Mom and Dad asking if we were serious about buying THE LAKEHOUSE? Well we were kinda but by this time were for sure. They had come up with a price and if we could pay a certain amout down then they would finance the rest at 10% interest over a 15 year time frame which would help them with retirement , etc. We had it all drawn up and payments setup and by August we were buyers of THE LAKEHOUSE.
Notice the date below on the pictures taken. These are the pictures I took to take home with me to be able to plan and dream about what I would do to the place . We met the renter and he agreed to let us make a camper hookup and we would maybe stay a week in the summer or maybe a weekend. We had a power pole and service so we did not run up his bill etc.
Pat and I bought THE LAKEHOUSE in 1992, it had been rented for years and none of us were using it. We bought it hoping that some day we could all enjoy it and not have to keep it rented to pay for it. We prayed that some day we would be ready to retire at THE LAKEHOUSE. This is a dock that had been grounded, when the water comes up it will float.
See all the Pine trees.
There was some dreaming going on on that deck that day.
The renter moved out at the end of November, so we decided to wait until after the 1st of the year to rent out THE LAKEHOUSE so we could all have Christmas there. It was exciting for all of us to be able to be back in the house. All the gang from Mississippi came with us and we camped out with lawn chairs and sleeping bags and we had Christmas there. Our 1st Christmas in THE LAKEHOUSE.
