We actually started some of this work in November and December. We took up the old carpet and removed the wall paper, that way we were forced to stay focussed. Bye Bye blue.
We managed to get the old cabinets out and ready for the floor, with the help of many.

Ceramic floor completed, now Pat will work on the sheetrock in the kitchen and the wiring. He will also move the plumbing for the washer and dryer.
The cabinets went up as planned with only a few minor setbacks. There was one cabinet that was damanaged in shipment which delayed the project. Just glad it was a piece to the island bar so the wall stuff could get complete.I got drawers for the cabinets as much as I could and I think that is going to be one of the best things I did.
See how nice my refrigerator looks. I was going to wait until after the outage to buy one, but I just could not stand the white one any longer. I know the washer and dryer stick out like a sore thumb, but we have a plan to move them with the next addition.
Notice the dishwasher is 2 drawers. It is actually 2 seperate dishwashers and each drawer pulls out to load, you can run one when it is full. With just me and Pat most of the time it takes days to get a full load. I think I am really going to like this.
I got the double oven I wanted, both are convection ovens, which I have never had, actually I have never bought a new oven in all my years of cooking. It was a difficult thing for me to decide what to buy, especially when I don't seem to cook much anymore. I will have to learn how to operate this one. The microwave is nice, more than I needed, but I wanted it off the counter.
Doesn't the wall look nice. So glad Dad put us in touch with an old retired friend with many years experience doing sheetrock. Thanks Marcia for suggesting to Pat... saved an argument I am sure, lol.
As you can see here we have the lights in and appliances in place, just waiting for the countertops so we can install the sink and stovetop. We will have a ceramic backsplash installed after the countertops complete. The ceiling fan will be in soon and a new dining room light, too.
Thanks to Bud and Rosemary for making a trip from Arkansas to help with crown molding. I really enjoyed the visit, we even got in some cards at night. Actually Bud made a trip in January to help with tearing out the kitchen and putting down plywood for the new floor.
The sheetrock and crown molding look so nice. I really, really appreciate the help from Bud and Rosemary.
Rosemary and I went shopping for bar stools on Friday and left the men to work. We shopped for hours and called home to see if they were finished and wanted some lunch... Well no answer on either cell phone or at the house. You can imagine what we thought... yes it was a nice day but surely they were not fishing. After calling Dad I found out they had problems that duct tape would not fix and was in need of a saw repair. So we had no choice but to shop more and eat lunch without them. After looking in many stores in Alabama and Mississippi, I decided they did not make bar stools I wanted and I just had to settle for something. We found a good settle bar stool at the furniture store 3 miles from the house. I forgot to mention in the search for bar stools Rosemary bought an occasional table and a chair. We had to go to the house and unload her stuff before we could load mine. When we got the bar stools home, I was not so sure I could settle. After pondering all night I decided the only way the bar stools would work was to find a dining table and chairs to match. So on Saturday morning, off we go shopping for dining tables. We went to a store I had looked for stools at last month and there was the table and chairs with matching bar stools I dreamed of. They were perfect, with a not so perfect price. Obviosly there was only one thing to do and that was to buy. So I hoped the store would take back the settle bar stools... and they did. On Monday they delivered the table and chairs and 2 weeks later I would get the bar stools, I think you will agree we did good.
Most of the work is done still waiting on the cabinet and countertop.
March 2nd Emma Tucker came to check things out and she thought things looked great. She is such a pleasant baby. So nice to have a baby in the family. Brandon is trying to take care of the Myhand baby shortage. I can't wait until the twins get here. I hope Brandon and Christy mark thier calendar for Saturaday before the 4th of July 2008.
