Retirement Life at the Lakehouse

I retired June 2009 and I have spent much more time at The Lakehouse. I have enjoyed each and every day and have not had a bored moment. I stay so busy doing things I want to do that I rarely find myself idle. I guess with the major remodeling complete there has not been as much to post. This is a new phase of life at The Lakehouse and maybe I can post retirement memories.

Mid March

This should get me on track for a weekly update. It may be boring and slow for a bit. Monday thru Wednesday was slow at work but I still had to work the 12 hours. Good thing I cooked on Sunday for the entire week. I basically worked talked to Pat a bit at night and got ready for another day. I did hear from Blake on Wednesday he was in Clinton and on his way home from Orlando and he had lost the cell phone, lol. I was not even surprised. Thursday things picked up at work. I got busy when I walked in the door on an on going project and worked hard all day trying to accomplish one task and I swear when it was time to go home I was pooped and we were no closer to completion. You can tell the pre-outage panic had set in. I was glad I would be off until Monday. I was also glad I had not planned to go to Bama until Friday morning because I was ready to just relax. Friday morning I did not wanna get up, but I knew if I rolled over I would be all day getting to THE LAKEHOUSE. Then the thought of the possibility of getting called to come to work and I popped out of bed and on the road I was in no time at all. I had a very nice drive, I have really gotten into listening to the cd's of the Oldies that I got from my dear friend Billy. I got to THE LAKEHOUSE about 1030. I was very pleased with my countertops and spent Friday putting shelp paper in and getting dishes and things in place.

I have forgotten to mention we did a face lift on the bathroom. Bye Bye Blue there too. This will help make it bearable until we can do the addition.

Counter top is officially in and looks GREAT! Amazing at how it just brought everything together. The old washer and dryer even blend in better lol, but they will still be moved when the addition becomes reality.

View of the kitchen from the sunroom.

Completed kitchen with lights on.

I still did not have the water installed to the kitchen sink or dishwasher or ice maker or the stove top hooked up, but I was gonna try out the microwave and oven at least. Pat came in from work early and I carried him to Mom's to get the lil red truck so he could get his tools and start on the sink hookup. I also went to Walmart to buy popcorn to try out the microwave and frozen biscuits and frozen apple pie to try out the convection oven. I sure did not want to mess up many dishes until I knew I was gonna have a sink, at least. Pat was well underway on the sink when I got back. I got out my book on the oven and started playing with the buttons. Its really pretty simple to operate just looks complicated because of so many buttons. I showed Pat how to operate the oven, bless his heart he has been batching it big time with only a microwave and refrigerator for 2 months. If you use the convection mode and set the temp at 350 it automatically adjust the temp to 325 to allow for the convection cooking which is a more even cooking, lol. Gripe he did, lol about the oven changing what he tells it to do, but he sees it is easy. I baked the pie and it worked out fine. I did not get water in the sink on Friday but getting closer.

Pat spent most of Saturday getting the water hooked up to everything and I was like a little girl at Christmas with a new kitchen to play with. I baked biscuits for breakfast. This is what sold me on the new oven, the old oven never was good to cook on, always a problem with biscuits over cooked on the bottom. I have never ever baked such a pretty biscuit in all my life, it was just perfect top and bottom, dang I should have taken a picture of one. I will tomorrow. At lunch today I tried out the new microwave, reheated 3 pieces of KFC chicken and they were great and was done so quickly, maybe I did not waste money on this microwave after all. I had thought I was crazy buying such a big one just so I did not have it sitting on the counter. I will say the drawer dishwasher was a pain to install, Pat lost his religion several times and I had to just leave and go shopping for a bit. I do not think Pat has realized his frustration sends me shopping, lol. This old blue couch is really bugging me, I just don't think I can wait 2 years to get rid of it whether I replace it or not. I went to what is now my favorite furniture store, for 2 reasons, lol. (1) I found my perfect bar stools there and (2) the best looking man I have seen in many many years, maybe ever works there, lmbo and if you don't believe me ask Rosemary, lol. Well I looked at couches but nothing jumped out and grabbed me, Thank Goodness, and I went back to THE LAKEHOUSE happy. We started making ice about 4 pm and it works, we have had it on accerated ice to make it faster but dang can't seem to get an exact time on how long it takes but I am thinking hourly I hear it dump ice. Pat got the dishwasher all hooked up and I was soo ready to try it out. I looked at directions and guess what, it says do not use automatic dishwasher liquid and I only had that. So off to the store I go to get cascade. I got the dishwasher going and it is so quiet and I think I will be happy with it. The sink was hooked up as well and I love the deep sinks, but I am having a little trouble operating it, lol. The faucet has 1 lever that does the water hot and/or cold, but I have about worn out the soap dispenser that is on the left trying to turn off the hot water, lol. Pat tried out the filtered water from the refrigerator in his coffee pot and he says he can tell the difference in his coffee. I am hoping the ice will not make my diet Dr. Pepper taste bad. The kitchen is basically complete, but we do need to get the backsplash installed, the electrical outlets on each end of the bar and the light fixture hung over the table.

The guy drawing up or plans for the addition brought them over this morning and we were pleased with the plans. If we do all that is planned at this point the house will wind up being 114 ft long including the garage, 4100 square feet including the garage, porch and pavilion. The house as is now is about 1600 square feet and with the 2 bedroom and 2 bath addition will be about 2700 square feet.
