Retirement Life at the Lakehouse

I retired June 2009 and I have spent much more time at The Lakehouse. I have enjoyed each and every day and have not had a bored moment. I stay so busy doing things I want to do that I rarely find myself idle. I guess with the major remodeling complete there has not been as much to post. This is a new phase of life at The Lakehouse and maybe I can post retirement memories.

MID MAY

Mid May is a great time of the year. The weather is nice, warm and even a breeze. School is winding down here in Mississippi and in Alabama as well. This means that my vacation is getting close. I will get right to the progress since work and Mississippi happenings are just normal.

Pat is in Bama and working to get things ready for what I will call Sandra Season. I made a weekend trip there and was a very good weekend. It started on Thursday night with a visit from Bud and Rose. They stopped to visit a few days on their way back to Arkansas from Georgia. We hope Jen is doing better now that the 1st week after her neck surgery has passed. We stayed up later than normal visiting and getting caught up on all the family we could. On Friday Rose and I went shopping. We seem to have this common interest in shopping when we are together, lol. We leave themen behind and shop until we drop. This trip was to decide on my bathtubs and showers for sure.... She was a big help. I hate making decisions lol.Now if I am not happy with the choices I can always blame Rose, lol. We also went to find the bed that Rose saw in Jasper a year ago.. we found the right store but not the bed. We pooped out sooner than we wanted and went back to the lake because they were gonna deliver the tubs, shower and a door. Friday was a very busy day at the lakehouse, we had men pouring concreteand getting the garage floor done. We had stuff being delivered, we had the blind lady making a return trip to see the error of her installation. Randy stopped by and gosh I was so busy we barely said hi. Susan stopped by to get her camera. Mom and Dad stopped by to visit with Bud and Rose. On Friday night we went to eat at PJ's. I had heard of PJ's but never ate there. I think that will be a regular eating place for us. The food was good and the atmosphere was friendly. We gave Bud and Rose a tour of some of the countryside. We went by the Dam and the Hydro plant and on back to the lakehouse. We were stuffed and again visited until late. Bud and Rose got up early Saturday morning to head home and I headed to walmart to stock for the Sandra Season. I think I got everthing I needed for a few weeks of fun and sun and was back by 830. I worked hard Saturday cleaning the house and cleaning the refrigerator. Still need to do more dusting but its almost a hopeless case right now. On Saturday evening Pat and I finally got to go to the All Steak Resteraunt on the 4th floor of the bank building in Cullman, Al. Greg and Marcia went with us and it was everything I expected. The steak was great and the shrimp cocktail was too. I was so full that when they brought the orange rolls out I could only sample one. It was unusual.. must have been great cause Marcia ate what was left....I was too full to really determine if it was good or not...I traveled a lot of roads I have not been on in years which was interesting. I had several decisions to make on the lakehouse floor plan the weekend and I am hoping that I made the righ ones.

I am back in Vicksburg now and I can hardly wait until Thursday which will send me back to Bama for a few weeks. I can hardly wait to see what they get done while I am gone. I know they are working toward another concrete pour to be done on Friday morning. This pour will be on thecovered pavillion and the patio. I am hoping for no rain the weekend especially Friday cause that slab will make lake access so much easier. Its gonna be a difficult vacation time but I think we will survive. Sleeping late may be the difficult part with hammers and such. I am posting lots of pictures.. hopefully you can get some idea what we are doing.

Below is the bedroom addition which now has windows.

This shows the area where the pavilion and patio will be.

Below is the room added where the porch off the kitchen was. This will be a pantry and a bathroom and not sure what else maybe covered porch as originally planned but we are considering making it a part of the house ie heated and cooled and maybe a breakfast nook. I think we will find a use for it.

Below is a view of the garage area from the road side.

This is the vertical blinds we had installed in the sunroom. They look pretty good but the lady will have to make some changes to them in a few weeks when the replacement blind comes in.
Concrete poured for the garage, finally.

Below is the whirlpool tub we picked out. We were gonna go with a 2 person tub .... but I guess I had an economical moment and decided to stay with a regular size.

This is the bathtub for one of the bathrooms.

This is the view from my bedroom.

Below is the shower that will be installed off the kitchen area.

Thats about it for the weekend. Check back AGAIN NEXT WEEK.
